Blog, Web Work- A History of Internet Art

“Net.Art” is the transition to a more digital world, one where everything is easily accessible. The internet was the transition from physical phonebooks to digital networks accessible to all. It created an ease of communication between individuals far and close. It opened the doors to a world that is surrounded by fast, hands on communication from all dimensions of media, being able to push any information to the mass public from behind a screen. But with the internet allowing individuals to transfer information anonymously, it has negatively affected society through the creation of cyber-attacks. People have been using the internet unlawfully by cyber bulling people and even “cyber-raping” individuals. The internet has established their own society, which has required a drastic pivot in everyday life.

It can be argued that the internet has made everything seamlessly easier, but, being a devil’s advocate, I would say it has created a much more complex world to live in. With literally everything being at the tips of our fingers, it creates tension and a sense of insecurity for people. Constantly seeing the “best” case scenario as well as the “worst” scenarios, creates an attitude for individuals, that they must fall on either side of the spectrum, when in reality the healthiest lifestyle consists of a balanced life with natural ups and down.
